"From cradle to chrysalis"

Look what I found dangling above my garage door.

And then later, just after nightfall I saw this guy hanging around near the back mudroom.  Looked related.  (It was the posture that gave it away.)
The next day he looked like this--ook!
He is drying out now, twisting, and getting more "wingy." I have had to watch out for sweeping him away because he is hanging so down low (as marked in the picture).
Maybe one day soon he will emerge.  "From cradle to chrysalis/ It's utterly speechless, songless / whistleless," says Ogden Nash of the caterpillar.

  1. No wonder the stages have such icky names (larva, pupa, etc) - they go with the appearance. But how exciting to think you'll end up with a beautiful butterfly or moth. :)

    1. Hahaha--I never thought of that about the names, but you are right!

  2. That must of been a cool sight! I have not seen one up close yet.
When I see a sighting like this I always think that it is a "sign" or a special meaning for something
going on in my life at the moment.
Do you do silly things like that?
